Saturday, the Market (before the rains)

The Colchester Oyster Fayre of 2004 promised to be better than expected, but with several Traders pulling out in the last week we were left with a few gaps in the field and no time to fill them. As it happened this did not detract from what turned out to be a very successful Fayre - for the visitors at least! As for the organizers, we made a small profit, and the Traders and Entertainers left with hopefully a successful weekend, but more important dry canvas to pack away.

The set-up went almost without a hitch, but Saturday dawned with the promise of morning rain. We were not disappointed.
When it came, it came. Firstly during the opening ceremony,
and then on two brief occasions afterwards, but torrentially.
Fortunately by lunchtime we were all dry again, but we do feel that Saturday's attendance was affected by this inclement start.

Bernie the Bolt (blue skies, must be Sunday)

As for Sunday, no complaints at all. If we had suffered rain again,
I'm sure that we may have thought twice about another Fayre in 2005, but as it was, all went so smoothly that the decision to take on the running of the whole 2005 event myself was an easy one to make.

The Traders (all smiles - the sun's out)

At this point I would like to thank the Committee of the
Colchester History Fayre Trust for their assistance in the
first two Fayres. We will see them again helping at the next Fayre,
but the planning will all be down to me and my little band of helpers.

Hope to see you again in June 2005
