Your
chance to be part
of
this exciting event !
The
Oyster Fayre is now a regular venture supported by the
Colchester
History Fayre Trust, at which we create the atmosphere
of
a large annual Town fair. The natural amphitheatre which is
Lower
Castle Park paid host to the very successful fayres of
2003
and 2004.
To
make the whole thing work we need lots of bodies and colour from experienced
medieval re-enactors. Much has already been booked
in
the way of market traders, trade demonstrators and performers
(although
we will take more), but we are still looking for many extras.
The
Oyster Fayre next June will be a great opportunity for you to order some
new clothes, and buy that essential piece of kit or unusual artefact. Meet
old mates and re-enactors from throughout
the
UK and near continent. Plus take part in what is promising to be
a
spectacular interpretation of an early fair. The period is 15th and 16th
centuries, so there is plenty of scope when choosing something to wear.
We
shall have a fine selection of real ales, local wines and ciders available
at the Beer Tent, which will be open for participants
on
both Friday and Saturday evening.
Secure modern or authentic
camping is available to participants.
We
are aiming to attract many more re-enactors this time,
who
can expect over 70 stalls and a host of entertainment,
so
please think about joining us, to participate
or
just to wander the fair. You won’t regret it, I promise.
