Combat & Tourney 2006

Tourney Gallery 2004

Medieval combat at the 2006 Fayre will again be represented by
The Companions of the Crow

They will be in attendance all day at their tented encampment, where they will have show tents to view and demonstrations and practice of fighting skills and weapons training.

Visitors to their encampment will have the opportunity to try on armour and handle the weapons at first hand.
The true weight of a mail shirt never ceases to amaze the public; getting it on is easy, getting out of it is a much harder job.

Thrice during the day the Combatants will assemble at the Tourney Ring adjacent to the Encampment.

Here we will stage hand-to-hand armed combat (with a referee to ensure that things don't get out of hand) and demonstrate the use of various weapons and armour.

Spectators will have the opportunity to choose who fights with whom, and perhaps decide who is the victor. There are no scripted fights here; each man is for himself. Fights may be brief, with an obvious victor emerging, or may drag on until one combatant is unable to continue.
At the end of each day the most victorious will be presented with
the Golden “Gauntlet of the Fayre”.

The armour being worn, the weapons being used, and the style of fighting will all be described while the combatants are on the field,
but during the day please take the opportunity to view and talk to the guys at the pavilions. They are very approachable, and they will not bite.
