Mayor of Colchester to open the Fayre

The Mayor of Colchester will open
the first Colchester Oyster Fayre
at 11am on Saturday 14 June,
and will subsequently close the Fayre
at the end of Sunday afternoon.

We have today had confirmation that
The Mayor, Councillor Dr Chris Hall, will be escorted
by the Colchester Waits to the Fayre Standing;
where, with the Colchester Town Crier,
he will declare the Fayre open and,
to the sound of a cannon of the Gun Company,
he will announce that Trading may commence.

Attending The Mayor will be the Lady Mayoress,
The High Steward of Colchester,
The Vice Chancellor, Essex University, Professor Ivor Crewe,
and the Member of Parliament for Colchester, Mr Bob Russell.

It is hoped that the Mayor will be in Official Regalia,
to suit full well the historic aspects of the Fayre.
