Oyster Fayre Banner ‘stolen’

Believe it or not, this is a True Story ....

An advertising Banner which had been doing the rounds
as a teaser campaign, featuring the Colchester Oyster Fayre
web site address, has been disturbed in its final resting place,
The Castle Gate Railings.

On Sunday morning The Colchester History Fayre Trust, organisers
of the event, discovered to their horror that the double-sided banner, which would normally have hung over the High Street,
a facility now not available to Event planners, had disappeared.

"We had been given permission to tie the banner to the railings
from last Sunday, which we duly did. But some time
early Sunday morning, the banner disappeared,"
said Ted Lloyd, Grand Marshal of the Oyster Fayre.
"We had taken the prime spot on the railings,
but that has now gone to another banner advertising
the next event in the park the following weekend."

"We were about to report the loss to the Police when
the Park Wardens reported that the dishevelled absentee
had been found by the Park Gardeners - dumped in the fish pond!!"

"Fortunately, the culprits were seen making their escape,
so it was not a case of Ad Wars or Banner Rustling," Ted added.
"We have a spare, and depending on the condition of the
web site banner, we shall determine whether we can use it again."

All was put to rights, though, as a Banner advertising the History & Oyster Fayre was again tied firmly to the Railings on Monday morning.
It appears that the two suited gentlemen observed running from the scene were University students, rather the worse for drink
after a night on the town celebrating the end of their exams.
