Archer of the Fayre

The Targets

Below is a list of targets we intend to feature at the Fayre.
The number and range of targets will depend on
the number of entrants and restrictions laid upon us
by the space available and park regulations.

Final list of targets will be announced on the Friday before the Fayre.

1   The Pot Shoot

This is a group of rabbits positioned on a bank in amongst
grasses and undergrowth at 10 to 15 paces distance.
The archer has to shoot from behind a tree,
with one foot touching the shoot peg.

Hitting the rabbits earns points.
Maximum time 2 minutes, 12 arrows allowed.
Shot twice on Saturday, once on Sunday.

2   The Kings Shoot

This is a distance shoot at a full life-size deer in the sitting position.
Distance will be a minimum of 20 paces.

Maximum time 2 minutes, 6 arrows allowed.
Shot twice on Saturday, once on Sunday.

3   The Speed Shoot

This is one for the skilled. Archers must loose as many arrows as they can at a small square pegged to a boss, at a distance of 15 to 20 paces.

Time allowed 1 minute.
Shot twice on Saturday, once on Sunday.

4   The Bell Shoot

This is the first of the River shoots. From a distance of at least
15 paces the archer will shoot at a brass Bell hanging from a gibbet.
Archers will use 6 arrows with blunt rubber heads.
Sound the bell or make it swing.

Shot twice on Saturday, once on Sunday.

5   The Wolf Shoot

A full size Wolf is hiding in bushes. But the archer cannot see all of it.
The archer has to shoot from behind a tree, with one foot
touching the shoot peg. Archers will be shooting across
the River Colne at a distance of 25 to 30 paces.

Points are scored depending on the part of the wolf hit.
Maximum time 2 minutes, 6 arrows allowed.

6   The Pottage Shoot

This is especially designed for those archers who cannot shoot flesh.
Targets will range from a shallot hanging from a string,
to a swede on a post. The smaller the vegetable,
the higher the points. Distance 10 to 15 paces.

Maximum time 2 minutes, 6 arrows allowed.
Shot twice on Saturday, once on Sunday, in the main Arena.

7   The Purse Shoot

All archers who have competed over the weekend will have the opportunity to shoot for purses. This will be in the main Arena,
in front of the market goers, on the Sunday, just before
the prizes are awarded for the Archer of the Fayre.

Purses will contain cash and each archer
will have only two chances to hit a purse.
