Invitation for Traders to

The Oyster Fayre

12th & 13th June 2004

Market Pitches Free!

Following the success of the event last year,
Colchester History Fayre Trust has decided
to repeat the Oyster Fayre in 2004.

We would like to thank Soutares ond Clerces for all their help
and assistance in mustering all the Traders last year and
organising the fledgling Archer of the Fayre Longbow Competition.

By way of appreciation to all those who traded last year and as a welcome to the new, we are offering free pitches to Period Traders.
We have a limit on the number of stalls so please
return your form early to secure a place at next year’s event.

We were delighted that so many of you expressed thanks for introducing the Oyster Fayre into the Traders’ event schedule,
and to date no one has said that they did not enjoy
that splendid weekend last June.

Next year we will be advertising in more publications and as a result should attract many more customers than were apparent this year.
Also it is noteworthy that at all the events I have attended
since last year's Fayre, I have been encouraged by re-enactors
keen to see the Fayre repeated each year.

Our period will again be 15th & 16th centuries.

We will, of course, look to keep the same high standard of presentation.
All Traders must have an acceptable period trading tent, booth or stall.
Please, no plastic awnings or garden furniture as appeared
at the Fayre this year. Probably the only exception to this,
on safety grounds, will be the beer tent.

There is no condition as to what may be sold; save to say that it must fall into the above period. We will, of course, not expect
any blades or weapons to be sold to young people
who are not members of recognised historic groups.

We hope this year that, as we are offering stalls at no charge,
Traders will be able to avoid selling goods that would otherwise
not be available ahead of our chosen period. If you feel that you are unable to meet this request then please call and we can discuss
the items. Exceptions may be made, so please contact us beforehand.

We are also looking for demonstrators who may of course also trade from their stall. Some funds may be available to cover expenses,
but again we would need to discuss this with you first.

We have tried to find a more convenient plastic tent /trailer /caravan site without success. However as most of you now know how to get to the site (which is secure) we feel that we will stick to the same arrangements as last year. That said, we would see that you all get detailed maps in the final mailing.

I look forward to hearing from you and seeing you all in June 2004.
